ABSTRACT

Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is a retrovirus demonstrated to be associated with human disease. Infection by the HTLV-1 can cause T-cell leukemia (ATL) in adults. HTLV-1 bZIP factor (HBZ) is a viral protein encoded by the minus strand of the HTLV-1 provirus. Among the regulatory and accessory genes of HTLV-1, HBZ is the only gene that remains intact and which is expressed consistently in all patients with ATL. Moreover, HBZ has a critical role in the leukemogenesis of ATL. Here, we review the function of HBZ in the oncogenesis of HTLV-1 and its molecular mechanism of action.

ABSTRACT

Chemotherapy as a routine method for clinical treatment of cancer has disadvantages such as significant toxicity and strong resistance. In order to improve the efficacy of the drugs and reduce the by-effects, we tried to combine static magnetic field (SMF) with cisplatin or adriamycin. The growth of Hepa1-6 cells treated with the static magnetic field (SMF) combined with cisplatin or adriamycin was significantly inhibited, as detected with MTT (3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide) test. Combined treatment group cells underwent significant morphological changes as observed by HE (Hematoxylin and eosin) staining under optical microscope. Cell cycle analysis indicated that SMF increased the ratio of cells arrested in G2/M phase caused by cisplatin, and when treated with SMF combined with adriamycin, cells were almost arrested in G1 and G2/M phase. SCGE test showed that SMF can enhance the ability of cisplatin or adriamycin to promote cell DNA damage. Atomic force microscope observation found that the combination of antitumor drugs and magnetic field treatment induced larger and deeper holes on the cell membrane, and surface structure damage is serious. The combination of antitumor drugs and magnetic field technology effectively inhibits the growth of tumor cells, and reduces drug doses. The results implicate this method as potential cancer therapy.

ABSTRACT

Objective To describe the CT features of giant lymph node hyperplasia in abdomen. Methods A retrospective study of CT features of giant lymph node hyperplasia in abdomen confirmed by surgery or biopsy pathology was performed.CT findings of all lesions were assessed by two radiologists including size, location, pattern of enhancement and density characteristics. Results 1 2 patients with giant lymph node hyperplasia in abdomen were confirmed including 7 women and 5 men with age range from 11 to 75 years (median age 3 9 years). All patients underwent pre-and post-contrast enhanced CT.CT showed a single mass in 9 patients lo-cated at retroperitoneum in 5,porta hepatic in 2,and mesentery in 2.Multiple masses were located at chest, abdomen and neck in 3.The lesions ranged in size from 1.2 to 11.9 cm in maximum diameter with an average size of 3.7cm.CT showed all lesions with well-defined margin and regular shape. The lesions less than 5 cm in diameter usually showed homogeneous enhancement, and how-ever those more than 5 cm showed heterogeneous enhancement. The calcification was seen in two patients. Conclusion CT features of giant lymph node hyperplasia in abdomen are characteristic.

ABSTRACT

Scientization of the make up of a hospitals leading group is closely related to the enhancement of an organizations efficiency and benefit. The scientized make up of a leading group, defined by trapezoidal age structure, rational knowledge structure, good intelligence structure, coordinated temperament structure and consistent goal structure, has the following features: ①unity, coordination, vitality, creativity and fast development of the hospital; ②high efficiency, fast decision making, and strong and quick absorption and utilization of information; ③quick mastery of new knowledge and speedy response to market changes. Ways of scientizing the make up of a leading group include: selecting and appointing members of the leading group according to the four standards set for cadres, with emphasis laid especially on training, improvement and study. Creative talents, in particular, ought to be appointed.
